James Bankes

 

1662-1743

James Bankes was admitted to Trinity at the age of 16, in 1678, after attending St Paul's School in London.  He was born in Lancashire, the son of William Bankes.  He graduated BA in 1682-3, and MA in 1686.  He was incorporated at Oxford in 1700, and held the posts of Rector of Lilley, Hertfordshire (1706-9), Rector of Bury, Lancashire (1710-43), where he made a gift of two large plated flagons; and Vicar of Heywood, also in Lancashire (1729-42). At Trinity he contributed £20 towards the restoration of the Chapel in 1707.
